Norman Terrell (b. 1933) was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from the University of Washington (B.A., 1958) in linguistics and Oxford University (M.A., 1961) in Russian Language and Literature. During his service in the U.S. Air Force, he attended the Army Language School in Monterrey California, where he studied Polish.
